This is rather a charming book, with amusing illustrations. There are numerous tales of how clever various individual animals have been seen to be, and in most cases a little moral is drawn from the story. We have Cats, Dogs, Horses, Oxen, Donkeys, Elephants, Wild Animals and Birds. Any of us who have ever had pets can recall how clever they have been on occasion. I wish Kingston could see those shots on television of squirrels who have learnt to get a few free nuts if they perform some subtle...

In hopes of keeping kids' attention, social engineering films would often use supernatural elements to make their points. In this film, we see a magic talking mirror that reflects bratty kids as clowns. Most of the misbehaving kids understand how their behavior is disruptive and make amends. Surprisingly, one kid doesnt care if he is a "clown" and continues being a jerk probably for the rest of his life. To license this film and get a higher quality version for broadcast/film...

The story opens in a rather run-down school. There is an unfortunate incident in which a boy is almost killed, and a boy of the name of Jeffreys, not a very popular chap, is held to have been responsible. Thus the dog acquires a bad name. Throughout the next few years of Jeffreys’ life this incident is brought up against him.
